Quest: in search of good empanadas

Restaurant Review: La Guapa/Juanitos - Empanadas Artesanalaes

So it turns out that maybe that other restaurant that I found good empanadas is closed or in renovation - Juanita (from the post: A Porteña in Sampa). But I have to verified further.

I went to try the empanadas from La Guapa, made by that chef Paola Carosella (owner of Arturito). It is inside Livraria da Vila. The dough was not the best, but the seasoning and the stuffing was impeccable. I loved the PUCACAPAS: lightly spiced caramelized onions with melted cheese.

They do delivery!!! I'm as happy as I could be.

About Juanitos... The pastry was good, but a little too thick. I ordered Spicy Meat (Carne Picante) and Cheese and Onion (Queso y Cebolla). R$7 each empanada. The meat was tasteless and dry. I couldn't recognize cheese or onions on the second one. But there was a lot of spices to make it better. And you can even buy them and take them home.

They have wines and beers. I ordered a cheap glass of Chilean wine and it was horrible. Maybe because I had an amazing French wine the other day at Le Jazz Brasserie: Arrogant Frog - Tutti Frutti.

I had fallen in love hard. And you know that when you fall in love, you have no eyes - or taste- for anything else. That's my sad story.

My friend ordered a beer: Jupiter American Pale Ale (APA) which I thought was really good.

They have a whole grain turkey breast meat empanada that tastes nothing like an empanada. It's like the California Roll stands to real Sushi. It's a fallacy and they should be ashamed to even call it an Empanada. Frankly.

But I loved the ambience, the walls were chalkboards and the menu was written all over them. See?

And the staff was super super nice. It made me fell bad for not liking their empanadas. They were at least very very pretty.
